Always in the Back of my Mind….

I’ve been horrible about blogging.  I did SO well at the beginning of last year.  So well, in fact, that I worked up the nerve to actually pay for a domain name and web hosting.  But wouldn’t you know that, as soon as I did, life got busier and a blog was no longer the priority.

I’ve tried here and there to pick it back up, only it doesn’t always happen like I want it too.  But it is always in the back of my mind because there are things that I would like to write about, little weekly blog events that I would like to participate in.

Because of my lack of consistent use, I have decided to let the .com domain name and everything go and move everything back here.  In fact, I’ve already transferred all of my posts from there to here (the perks of using WordPress software).  So, any and all future posts will be here now.

I’m playing with the site a lot.  I’m trying to find a look/layout that I like, so you may see something new and different with each post, who knows?  Anywho, stay tuned for what will hopefully be more frequent updates. 🙂

Be Thankful

Today I’m thankful for…

– Thanksgiving lunch with extended family.

– A new addition to our family. Welcome to the world, baby Claire!

– A safe trip to the beach with most of my immediate family.

– Getting to help take care of my sweet niece for a while tonight.

– Ending my night on our balcony listening to the waves crash on the shore as I relax in the hot tub.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Doesn’t feel like a holiday

I was noticing today how it doesn’t even feel like tomorrow is a holiday and I’m not really sure why.

Is it because life is so busy that a relaxing holiday just doesn’t seem to fit? Is it because we are now a society more focused on the day after thanksgiving instead of the day itself? Even worse, is it because we’re so focused on the deals that stores are no longer waiting until Friday to open, but encroaching on the holiday instead?

I think these are all big factors that add to the feeling that Thanksgiving is more of a chore than a holiday. We have to go spend time with our families. We have to spend half of the day cooking. What ever happened to wanting to do those things. Now it seems that all we want to do is map out our plan of attack for obtaining every good buy to be had.

My family is doing things a little different this year. After eating with my dad’s family like we normally do, we’re taking a mini vacation together. Six adults, two children and two dogs spending 3 days in one condo together. Now that is what this time of year should be about.

Almost Forgot!

Another busy day today! Went to work this morning long enough to basically get caught up on the daily work and then left around 10:30 am.

From there, I went to my church to help with the last day of Operation Christmas Child drop-off. As I pulled up, they had just begun unloading a truck full of 170+ shoeboxes. We took in another 100 or so from the community during the remainder of the time and then packed those boxes as well as the 219 that our church collected.

We then transported them to the regional drop-off center. Our church took in 2,344 boxes this week, the most we’ve ever had.

After helping with that, I ran an errand with my dad. Then I went home to get some things done. I think I did 4 or 5 loads of laundry, got everything folded and put away. I also got packed for my trip to the beach later this week (yay!).

After all of that, I collapsed into bed. Had I not been on my phone checking Facebook and twitter and seen my WordPress app, I would have completely forgot about posting today. I know I keep saying this, but I’m so ready for life to slow down!

So tired…

I’m really, really tired tonight. I’m not sure why exactly. It could be the fact that I’ve been almost non-stop busy for the last 12 days or so. It could be the fact that I just had my first Thanksgiving meal for this week. Or it could be a combination of both.

Whatever has caused it, I am simply worn out. Now I just keep telling myself over and over “3 more days, 3 more days” because I work 3 days this week & then I get a break. I kind of cant wait.

I would love more than anything to be able to sleep during my break, but between the holiday and all the things I’ll be trying to get done, sleep is probably more of a dream.

And since I’m so tired that my last few thoughts are focused on sleep, I believe I’ll succumb to the tryptophan in my system and go to bed. Hope everyone has a good Monday!

A Thousand Years…

It’s been a busy Saturday once again…and I can’t rest yet because I have 2 cheesecakes to make!

Anywho. I’m late to the party on this song, but I’ve heard it a lot the last few weeks and am falling in love with it. So instead of throwing some pictures at you, I’m posting some lyrics so I can get into the kitchen and get started. Enjoy!

A Thousand Years

Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I’m afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darlin’ don’t be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What’s standing in front of me
Every breath,
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darlin’ don’t be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

One step closer
One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darlin’ don’t be afraid, I have loved you For a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more

Progress

It’s official. I’ve become one of those adults. You know, the boring ones? One of those that stay at home on Friday night….to clean. But I’ve decided I’m okay with that because, even though I didn’t get everything done, I definitely made progress in my kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Three Things

Well, actually, it’s six things.

As I was scrolling through my Twitter feed, I saw a tweet that my wonderful rowmie Louise sent containing the link to a list of 130 journal (or blog) topics. One of them was “Three things that went right (or wrong) today.” I decided to list three of each.

Wrong: I arrived at my brother & sister-in-law’s house this morning to drop off my dog (yes, I have an extremely spoiled pet) and realize that my key ring, which includes the key to their house, is in the pocket of my pants that I wore yesterday. Ugh.

Right: I walk up to the front door and my sister-in-law is actually sitting in their living room and was able to let me in. You see, with the fairly new baby, both of them are normally sleeping when I come by.

Wrong: I was late for work.

Right: My morning session of court ended up being all conferencing between the attorneys & judges, so I was able to get my office work done.

Right: My afternoon session of court ended early and I was able to leave and get my jog in before it got dark.

Wrong: It’s starting to get colder outside which means my jogging pace is lagging. :/

And one more just to end on a good note…

Right: I got to hear (for the first time) my 2 month old niece laugh today. So cute!

One of those days

Today wasn’t really a bad day, it was just kind of a blah day. It was one of those days when I got to 5:30 pm and just felt annoyed. That just shouldn’t happen. That’s when I should feel relieved because work is done for the day.

Anyway. I went to church tonight to help with the Operation Christmas Child drop-off. We collected 94 boxes from the community tonight. That makes a total of about 525 over the last 3 nights.

Finally, I want to make another apology on the NaBloPoMo front. The whole no internet thing has been hitting me this week and all my posts are a result of my WordPress app on my phone. Again, I’m hoping life slows down and I can rectify this…because trying to type a post on my phone’s touch screen is getting old fast (which is why they’re a bit short as well).
